For some winter activities that will be close by, check out the following resources:

Cape Town

In addition to the public rink at the University of Cape Town (UCT) stadium, the University of Cape Town in the city’s centre also offers free outdoor rinks in three of the city’s parks. UCT’s outdoor rinks take place on two Friday nights per month at:

The Stellenbosch Olympic Oval, a sprawling facility with a large grassy area, grass hockey pitch, and two hockey nets.

The City Park near the UCT campus, where there is also a grass hockey pitch, an area to play Ultimate Frisbee and two outdoor rinks.

The Garden of Eden in the heart of the city’s old city district, where there is also a grass hockey pitch, an area to play Ultimate Frisbee and two outdoor rinks.

The City Bowl in East London, a large sports and recreation facility with an artificial turf grass pitch, a soccer pitch, an indoor running track, five basketball courts and an outdoor rink.

Durban

In Durban, the City Bowl, a venue in the heart of the city’s old city district, is always a popular venue for rinks, hockey, and other outdoor sports, especially after dark – so it’s always worth checking out the website for updates on events. Durban also offers free outdoor basketball courts at the Nelson Mandela Square.
