Lufthansa Says Apple AirTags Are Once Again Allowed in Checked Bags

Apple’s AirTags are once again allowed in checked luggage. The U.S.’s largest carrier, Lufthansa, has been implementing a few changes to its AirTag baggage-tag system. At first, AirTraveler, the AirLine’s online reservation and check-in platform, was not allowing the use of the tags in checked baggage. AirTraveler immediately initiated a customer complaint, noting that this was an important issue. Following this, Lufthansa and Apple reached a settlement (airtag.lufth.com/airtag–settlement), where Lufthansa will add AirTags to all checked baggage in the U.S. on its flights.

“We’re pleased that Lufthansa has come to an agreement with Apple regarding the AirTag system,” said Peter Niedzwiecki, Lufthansa’s Director of Cabin Policy & Compliance. “At Lufthansa, we are committed to being a responsible steward of our customers’ private data. By implementing Apple’s AirTags system in its checked baggage policy, we are delivering a level of consistency that our customers appreciate and which will greatly enhance both efficiency and customer service. This is the right and responsible action for our airline.”

In the past, AirTraveler had not allowed AirTags to be used in checked bags, however, Lufthansa quickly instituted this change. In a statement, Lufthansa said:
