‘The Shop’ decides not to air Kanye West episode: ‘Zero tolerance for hate speech’
The ‘The Shop’ episode, which features the rapper being attacked after he tried to shoplift, is one of the first on the long-planned, 13-episode second season of the NBC comedy starring Will Arnett and Sarah Hyland.
But the show’s Twitter account was quick to announce it would not air the episode, which it called “heartless,” and one tweet read: “We are not airing this scene from “The Shop” tonight.”
The Shop, which stars Will Arnett and Sarah Hyland, will now air season-two episodes that air in the US on Sundays at 10:30 on NBC. It is scheduled to air all 13 episodes of the new season in the UK.
The show, which was created by Arnett and Jeff Schaffer, stars Will Arnett as Will Price, a shopkeeper, and Sarah Hyland as his wife, Sally. It also stars Ed Helms, Joe Lo Truglio and Michael Trucco.
The network, which also airs the popular comedy Awkward, announced that the episode had aired in the UK.
It was reported that the season one episode, which aired on December 20 on NBC, in the UK became the most-watched broadcast of a series premiere in the history of the UK’s Channel 4, with 7.1 million viewers tuning in.
Kanye West, who was featured on the show, reacted in the comments section of the show’s Twitter post, in which it said it had “zero tolerance for hate speech.”
“The Shop is making the important point that as much as the media demonizes us, we remain who we are — and we’re not going anywhere,” it wrote. “We’re not changing, and we’re not abandoning our principles.”
