The search for a 9-year-old boy who vanished while playing at a creek in Oklahoma turned into a murder investigation after his kidnapper’s body parts were found in the murky waters. The remains of a man were discovered floating in the river, prompting authorities to widen the murder search for remains of the missing child.

On Monday, the body parts of the missing boy were found a few miles from where he was last seen walking in a field on Nov. 15, 2015.

He was walking with friend, Joshua Hill. They were walking in the countryside around the town where they lived when a car traveling north hit a deer.

Hill told police later that he’d dropped the boy off at the creek before they’d both left together. Hill said that when the boy came to the creek, he asked him for food.

But Hill denied any involvement in the abduction during an interview with police.

“I told him we weren’t hungry, just wanted to go out and have fun,” Hill said during his interview with a police officer.

According to police, the little boy was last seen by his mother, who was attending a cookout with other family members nearby. The mother and child were last seen crossing a field, then walking a few minutes away. A description of the boy’s backpack wasn’t released by police.
